129th Annual Session-Woman's Baptist Educational & Missionary Convention of SC
The public is invited to join over 2,000 women who will be in attendance at the 129th Session of the Woman's Baptist Educational & Missionary Convention of South Carolina on June 12-16, 2017 that will be held at First Nazareth Baptist Church (FNBC), in Columbia, SC. The public is invited to the Welcome Session on Monday, June 12th - 7:00 p.m. Bishop Wendell B. Sumter, Zion Mill Creek Baptist Church is the speaker. The organization’s members and the public will be attending from all over the state of South Carolina and beyond. Dr. Audrey P. Neal is the presiding president. Founded in 1888, the Woman's Baptist Educational & Missionary Convention of South Carolina (WBEMC) has been one of the strongest and influential organizations among African American Baptist women in the state. This body was organized to enable the women of local churches within the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of SC to fuse their work in missions and education. Morris College, owned and operated by the Baptist Educational & Missionary Convention of South Carolina Convention is its first priority.

2017 Memorial Day in Hopkins, SC
The public is invited to spend Memorial Day in Hopkins, SC or the Lower Richland Heritage Corridor. The 12th annual event begins with a SOLEMN CEREMONY at the St. John Resurrection Memorial Garden (also known as the Government Cemetery), on Ault Road, 12:00 Noon. The special guest speaker will be Walter L. Watson, Jr., Colonel USAF retired. The McGrady Trainig Center Cadets, led by Master Sergeant Brown, will perform the Flag Ceremony. The SC Combat Veterans Group & Lower Richland Veterans Formation will perform special tributes. This ceremony is being sponsored the J.P. Holley Funeral Home, the Lower Richland Veterans Formation and the SC Combat Veterans Group. Following at 1:00 p.m., there will be a procession to the historic Harriet Barber House, 116 Barberville Loop – off Lower Richland Boulevard, where the HONORS & CELEBRATION with a family-oriented day of fun until 5:00 P.M. Walter L. Watson, Jr., Colonel USAF Retired will bring greetings and 1st SG Carnell Simmons Retired will perform The Missing Man Ceremony. FREE Lunch will be served, and entertainment provided by the Entity Band and others. This event is sponsored by South East Rural Community Outreach (SERCO) and Lower Richland Veterans Formation. Come enjoy a wonderful evening with friends while supporting Sandhills School "2018 Summer Skills Camp". Heavy Hors D'oeuvres, Cash Bar and Silent Auction. Dyslexia affects 1 in 5 children and the Sandhills Summer Skills Camp gives children an opportunity to learn skills that can help them throughout the school year to succeed. The Summer Skills Camp is a four week half day program. Sandhills School is the only Orton-Gillingham accredited college preparatory school in the Midlands, Sandhills serves bright, capable, college bound students in the first through the twelfth grades who learn differently. Did you know? The SC State Museum is home to over 4,000 works of art, hand-made objects and various collections within its collection. Many of these pieces have never been on display in the museum. ART: A Collection of Collections will highlight some of these one-of-a-kind collections within the museum’s entire collection. Guests will get to explore works of fine, folk and decorative art made by South Carolina artists that are being grouped into collections within the exhibit based on medium, subject or artist.
